Choosing new tires can be confusing when there are so many brands, sizes, tread patterns, and price ranges available. The right tires should match your vehicle, your driving habits, and the conditions you regularly encounter.

Here are a few important factors to consider before buying your next set of tires.

Start With the Correct Tire Size

Every vehicle requires a specific tire size. You can usually find the recommended size on the driver’s side door-jamb label, in your owner’s manual, or on your current tires.

Using the correct size is essential for proper vehicle performance and handling.

Consider Your Driving Habits

Think about how and where you normally drive.

Do you primarily drive around the city? Spend a lot of time on highways? Carry heavy loads? Drive a truck for work?

Your driving habits can help determine the type of tire that makes sense for your vehicle.

Think About Tread and Performance

Different tires are designed for different driving conditions. Some prioritize a quiet and comfortable ride, while others are designed for durability, handling, or performance.

Choosing a tire based on how you actually use your vehicle can help you get better performance and value.

Don't Forget Tire Maintenance

Even high-quality tires require proper maintenance. Checking tire pressure, rotating your tires, balancing your wheels, and monitoring tread wear can help extend tire life.

Your vehicle's TPMS can also provide an important warning when tire pressure is too low.

New or Used Tires?

Depending on your vehicle and budget, both new and properly inspected used tires may be options worth considering. The important thing is making sure the tires are appropriate for your vehicle and in safe condition.
